Leigh Wood takes on Mauricio Lara at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena later this month for the WBA (Regular) Featherweight title. It is the second consecutive fight the Nottingham born fighter will have in the city after defeating Michael Conlan back in March.
The 34-year-old currently has a record of 26 wins and two losses but will face stern competition in the form of Lara. The Mexican has a very similar record to Wood, with 24 wins and two losses, but also has one draw against Josh Warrington. He beat the Leeds fighter in February 2021 before their September rematch was stopped in the second round after a cut to the head for Lara.
He has since beaten Emilio Sanchez in Calfornia but this will be a return to the big time of a world title fight, the first of his career and it is set to be a brilliant fight. The heavy hitting Mexican will be a stern test for Wood, who faces his second title defence.
