Boris Johnson has resigned as Prime Minister and the leader of the Conservative Party after ministers and MPs made clear his position was untenable.
Johnson is set to remain in position until a successor is in place which is expected to be at the Tory Party conference in October.
A No 10 source said Johnson spoke to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Conservative 1922 Committee, to inform him of his decision.
