How the national media reported on Nottingham Forest collapse against Bournemouth

The national media were in the press box at the City Ground on Saturday as Nottingham Forest collapsed to a 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth.

Three second-half goals from the visitors turned the game on its head, leaving national journalists having plenty to write about alongside NottinghamshireLive's Sarah Clapson and other colleagues from the local press.

It was a match with plenty of action, including a VAR incident for a Forest penalty in the first half. Below is a look at what the national media made of the match.

The clash of two widely differing transfer market philosophies ended with miserly Bournemouth pulling off a stunning comeback victory against big-spending Nottingham Forest.

The Cherries ended a traumatic week which had begun with a 9-0 thrashing at Liverpool, moved smoothly into the sacking of manager Scott Parker and then into a dire goalless draw at home to Wolves with a stunning show of spirit.

It was all the more remarkable as they had slumped to a two-goal half time deficit courtesy of slack marking that allowed Cheikhou Kouyate to head the opener from a corner, and the strong will of referee Michael Oliver, who refused to overrule his own decision to award a penalty, described as “harsh” by Bournemouth interim boss Gary O’Neil, despite being invited to take another look on the pitchside monitor.

Bournemouth’s interim manager Gary O’Neil does not know whether the impressive comeback win at Nottingham Forest will make him a candidate for the permanent job.

O’Neil is in temporary charge after Scott Parker’s sacking on Tuesday and a rollercoaster week was completed by his side coming from 2-0 down at half-time to take all three points at the City Ground.

First-half goals from Cheikhou Kouyaté and Brennan Johnson looked like putting Forest on course for victory, but seven days on from their humiliating 9-0 loss at Liverpool the Cherries dug deep.

What a difference a week makes. Seven days on from being bruised, humiliated and mentally scarred in a 9-0 thumping at Anfield, this was a triumph in mental fortitude for Bournemouth.

Not only did they win at Nottingham Forest, they showed great resilience and character to come back from two goals down and probably another confidence-knocking loss.

They trailed 2-0 at half-time having barely mustered a meaningful attack but fought back with a 30-yard screamer, an overhead kick and a zapping counter-attacking winner.

Bournemouth brilliantly recovered from 2-0 behind at half-time to claim a stunning Premier League victory against free-spending Nottingham Forest.

Jaidon Anthony was the match-winner for the visitors in the 87th minute, stroking in from Dominic Solanke's pass after the striker had dispossessed Scott McKenna deep in his own half.

Having looked out of the contest at the break, the managerless Cherries, led by caretaker Gary O'Neil, have now claimed a draw and a win since the 9-0 thrashing by Liverpool and the subsequent sacking of Scott Parker.

Bournemouth overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at the City Ground and give Gary O'Neil his first win as interim manager.

Trailing at half-time through Cheikhou Kouyate's header (33) and Brennan Johnson's penalty (45+2), Bournemouth pulled level after the break thanks to a Philip Billing thunderbolt (51) and Dominic Solanke's smart close-range finish (63).

The Cherries were not done there, though, as substitute Jaidon Anthony tapped in Solanke's cross three minutes from time (87) after a mistake from Scott McKenna to send the visitors back to the south coast with an impressive victory.
