It's been one week since Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak cut fuel duty by 5p after what was the biggest ever drop and the first cut in two decades. The cost of diesel and petrol has been increasing since before the Russian invasion of Ukraine and has soared on the back of rising wholesale oil prices, to the point where last week one Welsh petrol station saw diesel prices at 199.9p a litre. According to RAC's fuel watch, across the UK the average cost for unleaded now stands at 163.52p per litre as of March 29, and 177.47p for diesel. But have the fuel duty cut really made a difference at the pumps? We went to the same petrol stations across Cardiff just one week apart to see how prices had been affected. Texaco - Pentwyn Services
In Pentwyn services just a day after the cut the price of petrol were 169.9 while, while diesel was 184.9. However a week on and the prices has dropped with petrol coming in at 164.9 and diesel falling to 179.9.
Morrisons - Newport Road
In Morrisons on Newport Road despite the week difference in time, the price of petrol remained exactly the same at 156.7. Diesel however had dropped from 173.7 to 168.7.
Shell - Cardiff
There were drops in both petrol and diesel at the Shell on Newport Road in Cardiff compared to last week with the price of petrol dropping from 165.9 to 161.9, and diesel also dropping from 187.9 to 181.9.
Sainsbury's - Cardiff
While there has been no change in the price in petrol at the Sainsbury's on Colchester Avenue, with the fuel remaining at 156.9, there has been an increase in diesel prices with it going up from 168.9 to 170.9 during the week.
Texaco - Newport Road
At the Texaco on Newport Road Cardiff there was a drop in the price of petrol of four pence lowering it from 165.9 to 161.9. As for diesel it also dropped from 186.9 to 177.9.
Esso - Newport Road
Last week the price of petrol in Esso on Newport Road was 165.9 though the price this week has fallen slightly to 163.9. For diesel there is a slightly bigger drop of eight pence with the price falling from 187.9 to 179.9.
