How smart are parrots compared to dogs?

When we consider intelligent pets, dogs are always at the top of the list. They can follow commands, understand routines, and have strong emotional connections with humans. But parrots? These colorful, chatty birds could be much smarter than most people give them credit for. Just how smart are parrots compared to dogs? The answer may surprise you.

There is one parrot, an African Grey named Alex, that has been observed to possess the ability to recognize colors, shapes, numbers, and even preferences. Parrots also possess the ability to use tools, recall patterns, and even solve multi-step problems, which was thought to be the sole domain of primates.

Their brains are very advanced when it comes to social interactions and communication. Parrots in the wild live in very complex social structures, which may be the reason for their advanced level of communication and emotional intelligence.

Unlike parrots, dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years to work with humans. This has made them extremely adept at working with humans and understanding them. They are able to understand changes in tone, danger, and even help with conditions such as seizures or anxiety attacks.

Although dogs may not be as creative as parrots when it comes to solving puzzles, they are far superior when it comes to understanding human emotions and connecting with them.
