A "seething" Hugh McCluggage has taken ownership of the Brisbane Lions premiership defence as the AFL's great responders learn to live without Lachie Neale.

Brisbane defied some early blows from Gold Coast to brush aside their QClash rivals by 53 points in Saturday's semi-final at a sold-out Gabba.
