'How much we needed this' - Virgil van Dijk sends heartfelt Liverpool message

Virgil van Dijk has spoken of his pride at being a 'big part' of Liverpool Football Club after an estimated 600,000 fans lined the city centre to show their appreciation for the team during the parade on Sunday afternoon.

The Liverpool team were hoping to parade the Champions League trophy alongside the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, but that wasn't to be as Real Madrid beat the Reds 1-0 in the final in Paris on Saturday night.

That loss to the Spanish champions didn't deter Liverpool fans from showing their love to the team after what was a memorable season in which the Reds played all 63 games possible.

Van Dijk took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message to the Liverpool faithful: "I’m so proud to be a big part of this football club, my team, the fans, this season. What a day it was yesterday, and how much we needed this as a team after what happened in Paris. It’s been a rollercoaster season, we played all the games we could’ve played and everyone contributed to it.

"We will keep our heads up high and learn from everything we have been through as a team. It was only my comeback season and looking very much forward to next season! From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! Not only for yesterday but for the support the whole season, I love you Reds."
