How Much Is The Kempton King George Chase Prize Money 2024?

See below the King George Chase prize money breakdown on what the winning (and placed) horse in the big Boxing Day feature at Kempton will bank for their owners.

King George Chase Prize Money 2024: The Kempton Winner Will Get £148k

The winning horse in the King George VI Chase 2024 will earn £148,098 for their owner (s) – however, they don’t get to keep it all.

This is because the winning trainer and jockey will also take approximately 10% each of this winning prize money or around 6% of any place winnings.

Meaning the first-past-the-post jockey and trainer can expect to bank around £14k each in King George Chase prize money. Which will certainly help pay for some horse racing Christmas expenses.

In addition to the £148k for the winning King George Chase horse, based on the 2023 place figures the second will win just over £55k, the third £27k, the fourth just shy of £14k and the 5th just under £7k.

1st £148,098
2nd £55,573
3rd £27,825
4th £13,861
5th £6,969

Who Won The King George Chase VI In 2023?

12 months ago in 2023, the Irish-trained Hewick came with a storming late run to win the King George VI Chase for the John Joseph Hanlon yard.

It’s well known that Hewick was bought for just €850 back in 2017, but after adding the King George to his already impressive haul of wins has now banked just over £740k in total prize money.

However, Hewick WON’T be back in 2024 to try and defend his Boxing Day crown – but instead will run in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown on 28th December.

The recently supplemented Spillane’s Tower is the market leader with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

How Does The King George VI Chase Prize Money Compare To Other Big UK Races?

Strangely the King George Chase prize money for the winner is almost the same as what the Coral Gold Cup (old Hennessy) got this season – £142,375 – just £5,723 difference. With the 2024 King George Chase prize money £148,098.

However, these winnings for the big Kempton Park race are still a massive £357,675 less than what the 2024 Grand National winner I Am Maximus won.

Plus, is £210,354 less than what the 2024 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Galopin Des Champs banked at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
