A potentially chaotic final day could be in store at The Masters after heavy rain halted play on Saturday.
Play was brought forward due to the threat of storms during the second round on Friday, but was suspended 4.22pm local time (9.22pm BST) due to storms and three trees falling by the 17th tee. And the third round lasted until 3.15pm local time (8.15pm BST) when the heavens opened and the infamous claxon call sounded at Augusta.
By that point, the final pairing of Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm had completed just six holes, with the American holding a four shot lead. An early resumption on Sunday has since resulted in the Spaniard cutting the deficit to two shots, but with further rain forecast more disruption is a distinct possibility.
The final round is provisionally scheduled to get underway at 12.30pm local time (5.30pm BST), but exact tee times cannot be confirmed until 54 holes have been completed by all those who made the cut. But organisers are still planning on a Sunday finish - meaning the two front runners playing 30 holes in a day.
However, any further delays would see the first Major of the year run into Monday. The last time that occurred was in 1983, when torrential storms engulfed the course during the third round.
Six golfers, including Jack Nicklaus, were forced to finish their rounds on Sunday morning before the icon withdrew from the competition because of back spasms. In his absence, Seve Ballesteros claimed a second a green jacket.
Rahm, who like Koepka is chasing a first green jacket, was left angered by the initial call on Saturday having been midway through the seventh, telling reporters: "You can't really say it was too late [to suspend play] because I don't blame them for wanting us to play as much as possible.
"It was just too bad I couldn't save at least one par on four or five, but I made a great swing on six and two great swings on seven. So I'm feeling confident, playing good golf and there's a lot to be played."
One man who won't feature on Sunday is Tiger Woods, despite the icon battling to make the cut on Saturday. Amid being in visible pain with injury, the 15-time major winner withdrew before the resumption of this third round on Sunday.
