The recent introduction of five substitutions in the Premier League has split opinion since it was first tested during the 2019/20 season.
The league was torn between whether to increase the numbers of changes allowed after the five substitutions rule was introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic, allowing sides to field a larger squad for matchdays as the virus spread through the country.
The Premier League was the only major competition to abandon the rule because some clubs felt it gave those with bigger squads an unfair advantage.
