Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom once again brings back Breath of the Wild's signature shrines, and as anyone who played that game will remember, there's a whole bunch of them to find. Mild spoilers for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom ahead.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has brought back the shrines from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These mini-dungeons offer players bite-size challenges to test their brains (or occasionally their brawn), using Link's new batch of abilities Fuse, Ultrahand, Recall and Ascent, which offer even more unique ways to solve shrines, even outside of their intended outcomes – much like Breath of the Wild before it.
So how many shrines are Tears of the Kingdom? A grand total of 152 Shrines that are split over the game's maps. You can find 120 Tears of the Kingdom shines on the Hyrule ground map, and a further 32 across the Greta Sky Islands map, but it's not going to be as easy as just spotting them, as some of these shrines are hidden in incredibly devious locations. One thing you don't have to worry about however is the Depths, as there are no shrines underground whatsoever, so cross that one off your list.
Every Shrine has a Light of Blessing and at least one treasure chest, you can tell if you've collected everything if the icon for the Shrine is completely blue on your map. Incomplete ones will show up as orange.
Where to find shrines in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Shrines in Tears of the Kingdom can be found in all manner of places. The first – and easiest way – to find them is by just looking. You can just walk about the map and usually stumble upon one within a few minutes. You can also spot them from afar by looking for a glowing green spiral as the shrines emits these beams of light from the top. You'll be shown them in the tutorial so keep that image in mind.
Your best bet if to climb up to a high place – or land on the top of one of the towers after you're blasted out – and just scope around the area with your Purah Pad binoculars (which you can do by clicking the right stick) and you'll be bound to see a Shrine or five. You can pull out the Purah Pad while skydiving, so that's also a valid option for scoping them out once you return from the sky islands.
Not every shrine is as simple as finding it however; much like Breath of the Wild, there are shrine quests that challenge you to a series of tasks on the overworld with the final result being the entrance to a shrine. The good news is a lot of these won't challenge you once you're in the shrine. You're rewarded just for finding it.
Another helpful tool comes from Robbie who will give you a Shrine of Light sensor later on in the game after you've completed at least one temple, and completed part of the Lookout Landing Side Quest.
If this all sounds a little daunting, don't worry, you don't need to complete every shrine to complete the game, and you'll be bound to come across enough of them to boost your health and stamina to a good place by simply playing the game and exploring as normal.
Best of luck to any and all completionists though. You have a lot of work ahead of you!
