Almost half a million people in the North East received the Winter Fuel Payment last year.
The DWP has released statistics on how many people got a grant of between £100 and £300 last winter to pay for their heating bills.
This year, pensioners will get between £250 and £600, as the Winter Fuel Payment includes £150 and £300 ' Pensioner Cost of Living Payment '.
