How many episodes of The Holiday are there? Channel 5 launch tense thriller starring Jill Halfpenny

If you're at a loose end as to watch to watch this week and have a penchant for a TV drama, Channel 5 might have the answer as it launches The Holiday.

Weeks after The Teacher, starring Sheridan Smith, had viewers gripped and full of theories for four nights in a row, The Holiday launched in the same 9pm slot on Tuesday, March 1.

The Holiday cast is led by Jill Halfpenny, the former EastEnders and Waterloo Road actress who appeared on Channel 5 last year in tense thriller The Drowning.

She plays detective and mother Kate, who takes her family on a trip to Malta, to be reunited with old friends, only for the atmosphere to turn anything but friendly when she finds incriminating messages on husband Sean's phone and becomes convinced he's cheating on her.

Jill is joined in The Holiday by The Bay's Owen McDonnell, rising star Lara McDonnell, recently on the big screen in Belfast, as Jill's on screen daughter Lucy and newcomer Shaun O’Callaghan Wade as the mysterious Jake.

The Holiday, based on the book by T.M Logan, will have FOUR episodes.

And the good news for anyone with no plans for the rest of the week and hates waiting a week for a new episode, is that it will air across four consecutive nights, concluding on Friday, March 4.

A summary for Wednesday's second episode reads: "As tensions continue to simmer throughout the villa. Kate is warned to be cautious when she raises her suspicions regarding Sean to Izzy.

"Jenny’s husband Alistair finds himself compromised when a freaked-out Lucy accuses him of secretly taking photos of her. Already on edge, Kate approaches the situation with all guns-blazing but is proved wrong when she demands to see Alistair’s phone."

The drama continues on Thursday when disaster unfolds and a dead body is found at the bottom of a cliff, with a preview for Friday's finale teasing: "Fingers of suspicion are pointed everywhere as the group come to terms with what events have just unfolded.

"As emotions are heightened, Kate finally asks Sean what has been happening and if her suspicions about an affair are correct. Sean confesses, but not is all as it seems."
