How Liverpool would line up with Mason Mount as Chelsea "resigned" to losing Reds target

With Mason Mount appearing increasingly likely to leave Chelsea, attention is turning to how he may fit in at his next club.

One of the teams chasing him is Liverpool, with the Reds keen to boost their midfield options in the summer. Mount would certainly help them to do so, having arguably been the Blues' star player since breaking into the first team under Frank Lampard.

The England international is out of contract in 18 months' time, with talks between the midfielder and Chelsea chiefs having stalled. If he does move to Anfield, he would come into a team that is bursting with quality, though is struggling at the present time.

That star quality starts in goal, with Alisson one of the world's best goalkeepers. The Brazilian is almost certain to remain at the Reds past this summer, despite his howler in the humiliating defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

Boss Jurgen Klopp is unsurprisingly a huge fan of the keeper and he should remain as their number one next term. Trent Alexander-Arnold should also remain the first-choice right-back, though he has come under fire for his performance against Los Blancos.

It has not been a standout season for the Englishman, though Klopp has continued to back him. The German may hope that Calvin Ramsay pushes harder to take his place, though the Scot is still some way from being able to do that.

Central defence is likely to be an area Klopp looks to boost in the summer window, though for the time being Ibrahima Konate could push to become a regular starter next season. Joe Gomez is currently first choice on the right side, though his dire performance against Madrid has dented his long-term prospects.

Partnering Konate should be Virgil van Dijk, who remains Liverpool's standout centre-back. And at left-back, Andy Robertson would complete a familiar-looking back four, as he continues to put in solid performances.

In midfield, though it could be all change, with academy graduate Stefan Bajcetic the sole survivor of this season's disaster. Alongside him could be Jude Bellingham, with Liverpool having made him their number-one target for the summer window.

Completing the trio would be Mount, with Liverpool set to push hard to sign him. According to the Daily Telegraph, there has been no breakthrough in talks over a new deal and some at Stamford Bridge are said to be "resigned" to losing him.

The line-up would be more familiar up-front, with Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez both keeping their current starting spots. The one question is at left wing, where Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo will battle it out for a place, though the Colombian's previous starring role could earn him that spot.

Potential Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Stefan Bajcetic, Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount; Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz
