How LIV’s extravagant £44million finale in Miami works with huge prizes available

After a rollercoaster inaugural season, the LIV Golf Series will come to a close this Sunday at the campaign finale in Miami. Having already given out a whopping £144 million in prize money, another £44 million will be on offer to the field this time around.

The Saudi-backed circuit's individual prize has already been confirmed, after Dustin Johnson was named champion to earn a cool £16 million bonus to go on top of his £12 million season earnings. Now though all focus will turn to the team event.

As has been the case throughout the season, the players competing have been split into four teams - teaming up with those they have done throughout the campaign.

The Saudi-funded circuit has no doubt shaken up professional golf with its modernised format, and its season finale is no different. As has been the case throughout its first seven events, the tournament will be played over three days but will only entail a team element.

On day one (Friday) the four top seeded teams in the season standings will receive a bye, whilst those ranked fifth to 12th will compete against each other. Across each head-to-head match there will be two singles matches and one alternate-shot foursomes match.

Friday's winning teams will then advance to the next stage, where the top four seeded setups will also join the competition where the same format will be played. The four leading teams from day two will then advance to Sunday's team championship final.

The 16 players will then compete in twosomes, with all four scores competing to the team's overall tally. The team with the lowest score following Sunday's play will then be declared champion and take home £14.5 million split between its four players.

Second place in the championship will then split £8.8 million, whilst third place share £7.3 million. Regardless of their finishing position, each of the 12 teams will come away with prize money, similar to the circuit's seven individual tournaments.

Heading into the final week of competition, individual champion Johnson also finds himself on top of the team table alongside his 4Aces teammates, Pat Perez, Patrick Reed and Talor Gooch. The all-American setup have dominated throughout LIV's maiden season, winning four events on the bounce in Portland, Bedminster, Boston and Chicago.
