India’s digital healthcare push is moving beyond large hospital chains, with smaller and mid-sized healthcare facilities increasingly looking at technology to manage patient records, appointments, billing and other routine operations. The shift comes as the government expands the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), creating a wider ecosystem for digital health identities, facilities and interoperable records.
India's digital health infrastructure has expanded rapidly. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 86.96 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs) had been created as of March 22, 2026. The government has described ABDM as an effort to connect healthcare systems and support the exchange of health information through interoperable digital infrastructure.
