Two months after How I Met Your Father was initially intended to be released the eagerly anticipated series will finally be available to viewers. The pushed-back release date is almost upon us, with the premiere set to air on Wednesday, May 11.
Delays ensured it would arrive a few months later than originally planned, but fans will be hoping the wait is worth it when it drops on Disney+. If all this excitement isn’t enough, How I Met Your Father has also already been renewed for a double-sized second season, consisting of 20 episodes instead of the 10 episodes which make up the first series.
The Hilary Duff-led comedy-drama is a sequel to the original How I Met Your Mother, which followed architect Ted Mosby's (Josh Radnor) as he explained to his children how he met their mother. Its popularity over the course of nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, ensured this spin-off was an inevitability.

Creators of the original much-loved series Craig Thomas and Carter Bays reunited with director Pam Fryman for this 10-parter. The American drama follows Duff as Sophie, a hopelessly romantic photographer who spends the series telling her children the story of how she met their father.
While trying to find The One, Sophie's relationships with her close friends are put under the microscope. Although following a similar format to the original series, it’s intended to make clear that How I Met Your Father isn’t a simple remake, but rather a sequel with a whole new story, set in the same fictional version of New York.
The official plot synopsis states: “How I Met Your Father is a story that catapults us back to the year 2021, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options."
The new series has already started airing in the US, on streaming service Hulu, and has featured some exciting cameos from original cast members. Here are some of the famous faces that will be bringing these characters to life.
