The voice to parliament referendum has been defeated, with a majority of people and every state voting against the proposal.
While electorate-by-electorate results play no part in a referendum, the results can reveal interesting geographic trends. On Saturday, the eastern suburbs and inner west in Sydney recorded a majority yes vote, compared with a majority no vote in the western suburbs.
Similarly, in Melbourne, inner urban electorates were more likely to vote in favour of the Indigenous voice.
Here, you can search our map by postcode or zoom in to your electorate to see how people voted. You can also use the dropdown menu to show a selection of demographic and political data on the same map:
The electorate with the lowest support for the voice on Sunday morning was Maranoa, in Queensland, which had a yes vote of 15.8%. The six lowest electorates were in Queensland, with Kennedy, Dawson, Capricornia, Hinkler and Flynn all recording yes votes below 20%:
In contrast, the electorate with the highest yes vote on Sunday morning was Melbourne, in Victoria, followed by Anthony Albanese’s seat of Grayndler in Sydney.
This is one of the big trends of the referendum – inner city electorates voted more strongly for the voice while support for the no side increased further out from city centres.
