A new strain of bird flu, D1.1 variant was detected in a dairy worker in Nevada after he was exposed to infected cattle, making it the state's first human case of the H5N1 avian influenza. The new strain is different from the B3.13 genotype that affected cows in previous outbreaks.
The genotype, previously found only in wild birds and poultry, has now been detected in dairy cattle. It was first identified in dairy cattle on January 31.
