  • British cyclist Matthew Brennan has made history by winning stage 17 of the Vuelta a España, becoming the youngest rider ever to claim five stage victories in a single grand tour during his debut three-week race.
  • The 21-year-old also became the youngest rider to win back-to-back Vuelta stages after navigating the flat 185km route from Dos Hermanas to Seville, finishing a clear bike-length ahead of Jordi Meeus and Magnus Cort.
  • Brennan’s triumph secured a seventh stage victory for Visma-Lease a Bike at this year’s Vuelta, marking the highest number of stage wins the team has ever recorded in a single grand tour.
  • Reflecting on his milestone victory, Brennan described the achievement as fantastic for both himself and his team, adding that they did everything in their power to make history.
  • The general classification standings remained unchanged as the main contenders crossed the line safely in the peloton, setting up a crucial 32km individual time trial on stage 18 that poses the biggest challenge yet to Enric Mas’s overall lead.
