How Arsenal could line-up under Mikel Arteta as Stan Kroenke makes £180m transfer decision

Arsenal could be in line for another stunning summer transfer window this term after being one of the busiest sides in the Premier League last year.

The Gunners welcomed a host of new faces throughout the summer, the likes of Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Martin Odegaard and more having enjoyed huge impacts at the Emirates Stadium throughout the first-half of the season.

Whilst that spending did not continue, with January being a somewhat low-key affair on the incomings front, it looks set to resume in just a few months’ time.

The Sun are reporting that Stan Kroenke has decided to invest another £180m in the first-team squad. Moves for the likes of Ruben Neves, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak are all reportedly planned and with that being said, football.london has taken a look at the side that Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta could select should those three deals be completed.

Defence

Whilst Arsenal’s defence this season hasn’t been spectacular, it appears that the club are happy with the current options they have so it would be a surprise to see any real investment at the back.

Ramsdale, White and Takehiro Tomiyasu were welcomed to the Emirates Stadium last summer and have impressed so far throughout their fledgling Arsenal career.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Magalhaes and Kieran Tierney also look excellent long-term options so both will likely remain.

It of course remains to be seen whether this stance changes but the Arsenal defence certainly looks settled.

Midfield

The first major alteration for the Gunners should likely take place in midfield, with Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves being strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The former Porto man has sparkled at Molineux over recent seasons, with his eye for a pass and technical ability emerging as an extremely useful asset to the Black Country outfit.

Neves could potentially be drafted in as a replacement for Granit Xhaka, who despite penning a new deal earlier this season continues to be linked with Serie A giants AS Roma.

Should Arsenal secure the services of Neves, he could slot in alongside Thomas Partey - the midfielder signed at great expense from Atletico Madrid a couple of seasons ago.

Another La Liga recruit will likely round off a three-man midfield as Martin Odegaard occupies a slightly more advanced position.

Attack

Whilst Neves will likely be the only addition in the centre of the park, there looks to be plenty of investment in the Gunners’ attack once more.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has already departed for Barcelona, whilst Alexandre Lacazette also sees his contract expire at the end of the season.

In an effort to find some replacements, Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Real Sociedad and Everton respectively have been sounded out.

Having netted 38 goals between them last term, the pair would assemble a formidable strike duo and would likely be supported by Hale End Academy graduate Bukayo Saka, with the youngster continuing to sparkle at the Emirates Stadium.
