What if a material that is normally thrown away could help rebuild marine habitats? That question became the basis of a multi-year science project by Delaney Peterson, a student at Belleview High School in Florida, who explored whether recycled foamed glass could be used to create surfaces where young oysters can settle and grow.
Peterson's project, titled “Revolutionising Artificial Reefs: Recycled Foamed Glass Aggregates as a Sustainable Solution for Oyster Habitats, Year 3,” examined the potential of using recycled foamed glass aggregate as an alternative material for artificial oyster reefs.
