How a local football club is raising money for staff member with cancer

The Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club are hosting a range of events to raise money for a member of staff recently diagnosed with cancer.

The football club in Sharston, Wythenshawe, is in the midst of hosting events dedicated to raising money for Daniela Carter and her family.

Daniela, the assistant manager, was diagnosed with lung cancer in December and since then the Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club have come up with active and exciting ways to help raise funds.

On Sunday, the club hosted a football match of coaches versus parents.

There was also a tombola, bouncy castle, freshly cooked pizza and face painting.

Rachel Greenwood, the manager at Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club, explained that the club was a community of itself and Daniela is family within it.

She said: “We are attempting to raise funds for her family, to help them when the time comes, she has a 14 year old son and husband at home, grown up children living elsewhere.

“We are a family here at #TheAmmies and want to be able to help them in any way we can during this difficult time.

“We had a fundraising football match, it was amazing.

“We raised a decent amount for both families.”

The club is also raising money for one of their junior footballers who has leukaemia.

The next event planned for the fundraising campaign is a 14 mile fancy dress walk from Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club to New Mills Football Club in New Mills, Derbyshire.

The members of Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club will be carrying signs and buckets along the walk and hope to make as much noise and raise as much money as possible.

Finally, on April 1, the club is hosting ‘Dani’s Day’ , a day dedicated to Daniela with exciting family fun open to the public.

The day will include an exciting raffle offering great prizes, including donations made by local pubs, restaurants and salons.

Bonkers bingo and karaoke has also been organised for all ages and the whole community is welcome to join.

The club is hoping these events will help raise money for Daniela and her family.

While the club does not have an online donation website, they are accepting raffle prizes and cash donations at the clubhouse in Sharston, Wythenshawe.

To attend Dani's Day, the address of Wythenshawe Amateurs Football Club is: Hollyhedge Park, 105 Altrincham Road, Sharston, Wythenshawe, M22 4US.
