Lakewood Church, a prominent megachurch in Houston led by well-known pastor Joel Osteen, is preparing to hold a special service following a tragic incident that rocked its congregation last week. On February 11th, a woman identified as Genesse Moreno entered the church premises between Sunday services with her 7-year-old son and opened fire in one of the hallways. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in a confrontation with two off-duty officers who ultimately took down Moreno. The shooting left two individuals wounded, including Moreno's son who sustained a gunshot wound to the head and remains hospitalized.
Investigations into the incident have raised numerous unanswered questions, including the motive behind Moreno's actions and how she acquired the AR-style rifle she used. According to Moreno's former mother-in-law, Walli Carranza, the tragedy has shed light on the struggles Moreno faced with mental illness. Carranza attributes the shooting to systemic failures and inadequate gun control laws that may have contributed to the event.
