A group of House Republicans, led by Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, is advocating for Congress to repurpose foreign aid funding that was frozen by President Donald Trump. The proposed legislation, known as the Restoring American Sovereignty Act, aims to allocate these funds towards enhanced deportation efforts targeting illegal immigrants in the United States.
Rep. Ogles, along with fellow House Freedom Caucus members Reps. Andy Biggs and Tom Tiffany, emphasized the need to prioritize American interests, citing concerns over the handling of taxpayer dollars by agencies like the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). They argue that redirecting these funds towards deportation initiatives would better serve national security.
