House Republicans call for testimony from special counsel Robert Herr

House Republicans are calling for special counsel Robert Herr to testify about his report on President Biden's handling of classified documents. While Herr concluded that charges against President Biden were unwarranted, Republicans are using the report to portray Biden as a forgetful commander in chief who failed to protect classified information.

The Republicans are seeking to hear directly from Robert Herr about the conclusions he drew in the report and its contents. Former special counsels have testified before Congress in similar cases, and negotiations are underway for Herr to testify, possibly by the end of February.

Many Republicans on the panel are expected to question Herr on why he chose not to charge President Biden with a crime. Though Herr found some evidence of potential wrongdoing, he determined it was not sufficient to charge Biden with willfully retaining national security records or classified documents.

Conversely, Democrats on the panel are likely to inquire about Herr's detailed assessment of President Biden's memory. Herr referred to Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory, suggesting that a jury might not be inclined to convict him based on this factor.

In addition to Herr's testimony, the House Oversight Committee is also requesting classified materials related to Herr's investigation and the full transcript of Biden's interview with the special counsel. These requests may be used in potential impeachment proceedings against Biden.

Shifting focus to another ongoing case, it has been revealed that Supreme Court Justice John Roberts has set a deadline for the special counsel's office to respond to Donald Trump. Trump recently requested the Supreme Court to review the question of presidential immunity and requested a pause in his ongoing criminal case related to January 6th. The deadline set by Chief Justice Roberts is next Tuesday afternoon.

The special counsel's office is expected to promptly file a response before the deadline. The Supreme Court will then consider the case and decide on the further course of action.

As we await developments, it remains to be seen how the Supreme Court will weigh in on Trump's request and what implications it could have for his criminal case.

Overall, these ongoing developments regarding both the House Republicans' request for Herr's testimony and Trump's request for a pause in his criminal case highlight the increased scrutiny faced by President Biden and the continued legal battles following the events of January 6th.
