A group of House progressive Democrats have chosen to attend a counter-programming event on Capitol Hill rather than Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech. At least eight House Democrats, including Reps. Jim Clyburn, Pramila Jayapal, and Jim McGovern, are present at the event.
During the event, both Jayapal and McGovern addressed the attendees before engaging in a panel discussion. The panel features Israeli and Palestinian peace activists, as well as an Israeli army veteran.
McGovern expressed his motivation for attending the event, stating, “I’m looking for some inspiration. I’m looking for some hope.” He emphasized the need to end the violence on both sides and highlighted the shared sentiment among the attending lawmakers, stating, “all of the members who are here are horrified by what’s happened.”
