Shocked Gavin and Stacey fans couldn’t believe their eyes when they spotted a Barry Island icon on the Game of Thrones spin-off House of the Dragon.
Viewers were stunned after the familiar face from Gavin and Stacey appeared in a recent episode of the popular HBO series currently showing in the UK on Sky Atlantic.
As part of the series, a number of new characters have been introduced – including the Hand of the King Ser Otto Hightower's brother, Ser Hobert Hightower.
Hobert was instantly recognisable to fans of the hit-British TV sitcom based in Wales, with fans quickly taking to Twitter to express their disbelief.
The character is played by actor Steffan Rhodri, who is best known for his role in the famous BBC series behind the wheel of an old bus.
Known as Dave Coaches, the lovable bus driver ended up stealing Nessa's heart as the pair tied the knot in one of the more well-known episodes.
“I can forgive Rhys Ifans, but why didn’t they let Dave Coaches speak in his Welsh accent in House of the Dragon,” probed one viewer.
“F**k off is Dave Coaches in House of Dragons hahahaha,” penned another. “Dave Coaches in House of the Dragon? I bloody love it,” said a third.
Another viewer added: “Just realised they’ve got Dave from Dave’s Coaches in House of the Dragon.”
They explained that his well-known bus driver character could get in the way of any future acting gigs due to his easily recognisable face.
“This is the issue with everyone and their dog ending up in these big fantasy franchises,” they added. “Sometimes you can’t get beyond a role someone held in the past.”
Another said: “One of my favourite bits of House of the Dragon is that Dave Coaches from Gavin and Stacey is in it.”
Dave Coaches star Steffan has also held other roles in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as well as Wonder Woman.
Speaking of Gavin and Stacey, his co-star James Corden previously told the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show that its return is not up to him.
He said: “The best thing about Gavin and Stacey is that it's Ruth and I and, if I'm being completely honest, her judgement is exceptional.
“Look, I am going to have a bit more free time next year and that will open some time for us to just be together, I hope."
