House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has issued a subpoena to the Biden-Harris administration, demanding information on the federal government's expenditures related to housing illegal immigrants using taxpayer funds.
In a letter addressed to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra, Jordan raised concerns about the administration's enforcement of federal immigration laws and its prioritization of illegal aliens and refugees over U.S. citizens and legal residents.
Since July, the committee has been seeking details from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), a component of HHS, regarding its collaboration with the State Department, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in utilizing taxpayer money for housing assistance for aliens in the country.
The committee has also been investigating ORR's association with Church World Service and its Refugee Housing Solutions program, which connects aliens with housing resources.
Despite multiple requests for documents and communications related to ORR's role in providing housing assistance to refugees and other aliens, the committee faced delays and received only seven pages of documents on Oct. 4, which were deemed insufficient.
Jordan emphasized the importance of congressional oversight, citing the Supreme Court's recognition of Congress's broad power to conduct inquiries into the administration of laws and propose reforms to benefit the American people.
The subpoena demands that HHS provide all documents and communications related to housing assistance for refugees, parolees, and other aliens involving ORR, the State Department, HUD, DHS, and Church World Service by Oct. 30 to facilitate the committee's oversight and potential legislative reforms.
