A house fire has closed a residential street in Newport. Fire crews were called to Sutton Road in Newport at around 7am on Tuesday, May 9.
A witness said the road was cordoned off, with two engines and a "large number of firemen" on the street. Smoke could be seen billowing from a house with blackened windows. Firefighters were gathered outside.
They witness said: "[The incident] is still ongoing. Road cordoned off. Two engines still on the street and a large number of firemen."
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We’ve attended a report of a fire at an address in Sutton Road, Newport at around 6.30am on Tuesday 9 May to assist with public safety and the incident is ongoing." They added that there were no injuries reported.
A spokesperson for the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 6:24am on Tuesday 9 May 2023, we received reports of a domestic fire on Sutton Road, Newport. Multiple crews attended the scene and alongside emergency service colleagues. A stop message was received at 8:23am approximately."
