Hour-by-hour weather forecast as North East hit by snow with Met Office warnings in place

The North East woke up to snow on Tuesday morning - with further weather warnings in place during the week.

Temperatures plummeted across the region, with many roads and streets blanketed by the white stuff. And, according to forecasters, it will remain cold for the rest of this week, with weather warnings in place.

The Met Office says the maximum temperature in the North East will be 4C on Tuesday and it will be a "very cold night with a severe frost" and icy patches in places still damp from any daytime showers. The odd snow shower may affect exposed windward coasts at times. The minimum temperature is expected to be -4C.
