The Met Office has warned of 'significant disruption' as it predicts parts of Nottinghamshire will see snowfall. The weather service has predicted snow in parts of the county later in the week and has said some parts of the country will face blizzard conditions.
On the Met Office's interactive precipitation map, the first bit of snow predicted to fall in the later part of this week will be over Mansfield at around 8am on Thursday, March 9. This will then give way to rain, before switching back to snow at around 10am.
For most of Nottinghamshire during this time though rain will be pouring out of the sky, with some sporadic hail also expected. This unsettled weather is expected to continue throughout Thursday and into Friday morning.
Worksop may also see some brief snowfall at around 8pm on Thursday night, with Mansfield predicted to receive another flurry later that will continue into the early hours of Friday.
The morning of Friday, March 10 will see the most widespread snow in Nottinghamshire, according to the weather experts. The Met Office's map shows at 7am a band of snowy weather is expected spanning from Nottingham to Mansfield and Worksop.
This will soon turn to rain though, with the sky predicted to be relatively clear by midday. In a series of Twitter posts, the Met Office said: "A battle between cold Arctic air and milder Atlantic air will result in disruptive #snow in some areas this week. Most of the #snow during the next 24 to 36 hours will be across South Wales and southern England.
"The focus of the #snow then shifts further north on Thursday and Friday. Significant disruption is likely in places and strengthening winds may lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow."
