Hour-by-hour Met Office forecast shows when to expect rain on Wednesday and Thursday in North East

While North East residents may have caught a rare glimpse of sunshine across the bank holiday weekend, this week's weather is a far more dull and drab affair - especially midweek, which appears to be overshadowed with thick clouds and rain.

Tomorrow's forecast looks to bring partially sunny conditions at best, and is plagued with light showers between 1.00pm and 7.00pm. Thereafter, clouds are expected to clog the sky with brisk overnight temperatures of 5C.

And more of the same is set for Wednesday according to experts at the Met Office - with more clouds continuing across the morning and further light showers in the afternoon. Highs of 10C and lows of 4C are anticipated.

The Met Office says: "Remaining unsettled through Wednesday with strong winds continuing. Frequent rain and heavy showers throughout the day with possible hail and thunder, wintry over high ground.

"Feeling cooler than previous days. Maximum temperature 8 °C."
