Hot Wheels members have spoken again, and this time they have handed the brand its second Red Line Club Selections release of the year. The winning pick is the 1989 Porsche 959, the all-wheel-drive icon that once doubled as a homologation special and a technology showcase.
The casting, designed by Brendon Vetuskey back in 2023, topped a crowded ballot that also featured the Custom Corvette, a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor, the Custom T-Bird, the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, and a 1964 Mercedes-Benz 600. Members also voted on the color, landing on Spectraflame purple over three other finishes.

Hot Wheels RLC Porsche 959: What It Is
Red Line Club members picked the 959 through a two-stage vote covering casting and color, and the Porsche 959 pulled 41.74 percent of the vote in the casting round. That is a decisive margin in a field that mixed classic American muscle with European and modern truck contenders.
Color came down to a separate ballot, with Spectraflame purple winning out over three rival finishes offered to members. The paint choice gives the 959 a deep, metallic look that plays well against the car's boxy, homologation-special proportions from the late 1980s.
This is not the brand's first swing at pairing a member vote with a European performance icon. Hot Wheels used a similar Selections process for the RLC Ferrari F40 release earlier in 2026, part of a series of member votes that has been running for years.
The model carries part number JLX18 and is sold strictly as a members-only item. There is no mass retail version planned, which keeps demand tied to Red Line Club rather than general diecast shelf sales.
Price And Ordering Window
Ordering opened September 22, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time, kicking off a window that runs two weeks. That window closes October 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, giving eligible members roughly two weeks to place an order.
The price is $28 before shipping and tax, and Mattel notes that members can pre-order as many as they want. The release also debuts Real Riders BB wheels with gold-painted hubs, a first-time wheel tooling for this Porsche 959 casting.
Eligibility is limited to active Red Line Club members, the subscription tier Hot Wheels uses for its most collector-focused releases. Anyone outside that membership will not be able to purchase this particular casting during the preorder window.
The 959's win follows the 1972 Chevy Nova SS, which took the first Selections round of 2026. In the second round that yielded the 959, the 1971 De Tomaso Mangusta logged 1,554 votes, about 13 percent of the total.
Motor1's Take: The choice of a Porsche 959 in Spectraflame purple shows how far the Red Line Club has moved into serious car-nerd territory. A Group B-era homologation special is a deep cut by Hot Wheels standards, and the color vote pushed it even further from the usual silver or red.
What stands out here is the use of Selections to tap into cars that most collectors will never see in person. The Ferrari F40 run did the same thing for another poster car, and a made-to-order 959 keeps that theme going for people who follow real-world Porsche unobtanium as closely as they follow diecast drops.
