The tool at the center of a growing national maternal health effort costs almost nothing and contains no technology. It is a silicone wristband stamped with the words "I Gave Birth."
Hospitals hand it to patients at discharge and ask them to keep wearing it until their postpartum appointment. The purpose is to speak for a patient in an emergency room or an ambulance when she cannot explain her own medical history.
