Three lots of one of the most routinely used products in American hospitals, plain 0.9 percent sodium chloride injection, have been pulled from the market nationwide after foreign particles were found in the fluid. What those particles are changed after the recall was announced.
B. Braun Medical Inc. is recalling the affected lots of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection USP, 100 mL, supplied in a 150 mL PAB container. The recall notice posted by the Food and Drug Administration now carries a correction at the top: "On 8/28/2026, the recalling firm updated their recall reason to correctly identify iron oxide, rather than zinc oxide, as the particulate matter present in the product." Much of the secondary coverage published around the announcement still describes the particulate as zinc oxide, which is worth knowing if a hospital pharmacy is working from a news clipping rather than the primary notice.
