Hospice moggies named cats of the year for supporting people at end of their life

These caring cats live in a hospice and have been honoured for the “comfort and support they give to people at the end of their life”.

Brother and sister Jasper and Willow were jointly named National Cat of the Year 2022 in awards organised by Cats Protection welfare charity.

The rescue cats were adopted in 2018 by the St Peter and St James Hospice in Haywards Heath, West Sussex.

Front of house manager Jackie Manville said: “We are over the moon that Jasper and Willow have been celebrated for the important role they play at the hospice. They’ve brought comfort to so many people, whether it’s patients, family and friends, or staff.

“They show how special rescue cats are, and we’re so proud of them both.”

Jasper and Willow also won the Outstanding Rescue Cat category, voted by celebrity judge and Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden.

She said: “It’s amazing how two rescue cats are so happy and comfortable in their role of comforting others. If ever cats can show empathy, they do.”
