Police in Irvine are hunting young yobs who put motorists lives at risk by hurling shopping trolleys from a footbridge.
The terrifying incident happened near the multi-storey car park at the Rivergate Shopping Centre in New Street at around 5.45pm yesterday.
Drivers reported seeing a group of youngsters drop trolleys from the footbridge that links the car park to Fullarton Street - narrowly missing vehicles below.
Now officers are reviewing CCTV footage in a bid to catch those responsible.
One female motorist relieved the horror moment she was almost caught up in a five-car pile-up after a driver in front took evasive action.
Posting on Facebook she said: "Be careful when driving under the footbridge that takes you into the multistorey. A group of kids throwing trolleys off the top and missed the car in front of me by a second and almost caused a 5 car pile up!
"Crazy how your whole life realigns when something like that happens."
Police Scotland said there were no reports of any injuries but vowed to hunt down the culprits.
