Two people have been rushed to hospital by ambulance following a horror smash on the M77 in East Ayrshire. Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to the scene on the northbound carriageway, near Kingswell, shortly before 8.30am on Friday, April 21.
Motorists faced lengthy delays and heavy traffic after the roadway was closed to clear the debris of the two vehicles involved. Two casualties were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.
The extent of their injuries is not currently known. A picture from the scene shows fellow road users queuing up behind the wreck with two fire engines in attendance.
Police Scotland confirmed they were also called to attend and that the road was reopened at around 9.30am.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received the call today at 0827 hours to attend an incident on the M77. We dispatched two ambulances and our trauma team to the scene. We transported two patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
Police Scotland added: “We were made aware of a crash involving two vehicles on the M77 northbound near junction six around 8.30am on Friday, 21 April.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.20am on Friday, April 21 to reports of a collision involving two cars and one lorry on the M77 northbound, near to junctions 5 and 6.
“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene of a collision involving two cars.
“Two casualties were in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service and one of the casualties was transferred to hospital.
“Crews assisted emergency service partners and ensured the area was safe before leaving the scene.”
