Horror crash leaves three dead after car ploughs into tree

Three people have tragically died and two others left injured following a horror car crash on the A38 in Derbyshire. The one car involved, a silver Ford Focus, was on the southbound carriageway of the major road during the early hours of Saturday morning (April 23) when it left the road and crashed into a tree.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene, near to the exit for the B600 at Somercotes, at around 2.15am. However, Derbyshire Police has confirmed that two women and a man died at the scene.

The force added that their families are aware and are being supported by specially trained officers. A man and a woman were also taken to hospital with serious injuries after the crash.

As of today (Monday, April 25), they both remain in hospital, the man in a critical condition and the woman in a stable condition. Derbyshire Police is now urging any witnesses to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or noticed the car, which had been travelling southbound on the M1 before the collision. We would particularly appeal for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage which could help with our enquiries to get in touch."
