Horror as youths armed with a knife and baseball bats fight at a leisure complex as schoolkids make their way home

People fled as thugs with baseball bats and a knife were involved in a fight at a leisure complex while pupils made their way home from school.

Trouble erupted at Parrs Wood Entertainment Centre in Didsbury, south Manchester, shortly before 3.16pm, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

A number of youths armed with a knife and two baseball bats were involved in a large fight at the entertainment complex off Kingsway, according to the force. At least one was seen bleeding from a wound, said the spokeswoman.

One eye-witness told the M.E.N. a man was seen 'running after students trying to attack them'.

The incident happened as pupils from the nearby Parrs Wood High School were making their way home.

The eye-witness said: "He had a black baseball bat and a black mask on as the students left Parrs Wood High. People were having to run in the road."

Police were scrambled to the scene.

The GMP spokeswoman said school pupils appeared to be heading home when they witnessed the trouble. She said the police investigation was continuing. There are no reports of serious injuries as yet.

The M.E.N. has approached the school for a comment.

Greater Manchester Police is expected to provide an update later.
