Horror as man in his 30s is stabbed to death in Richmond

Residents of a leafy street in Richmond were horrified after a man was fatally stabbed outside their homes.

Officers were scrambled to Maguire Drive at around 11.20pm on Thursday and found three men with stab wounds.

They were taken to hospital where one, aged in his early 30s, died.

Police have launched a murder investigation and forensics officers could be seen scouring for clues on Friday morning.

One neighbour claimed to have driven the fatally injured man to hospital after hearing desperate screams for help outside his house.

Speaking to The Standard they said: “I heard screaming so I ran out into the street. I saw two guys bleeding one with a chest wound.

“I got them in my car and drove them to hospital.

“The one guy probably died in my car.

“He was so badly injured there was a lot of blood. I’m so sorry he couldn’t be saved, I did my best.

“I just heard shouting and responded. They were laying there. There were many injuries but definitely a chest wound.”

Other neighbours reported loud shouting in the minutes before the attack.

One said: “An injured man was collapsed outside my neighbour’s house. She tried to help him. It’s appalling, it’s a quiet neighbourhood.”

Eman Evans said: “You can hear shouting on my ring doorbell recording.

“It’s a terrible thing that happened. My daughter only came home just before. She could have been caught up in it.”

A local petrol station forecourt has been cordoned off by police. Other parts of the street are also behind cordons, including an alley.

Another neighbour said: “There was a bloke laying bleeding on the floor then there were flashing blue lights and police everywhere. It was carnage.”

One woman whose daughter went to school with the victim said: “He was a lovely guy, he had just had a baby.

“He never argued with anyone, his motto was ‘bury the beef’. I don’t know how this could have happened, he didn’t live near where he was stabbed.”

A police statement said: “One man – aged early 30s – was pronounced dead at hospital. His next of kin have been informed. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

“The other two other men’s injuries’ have been assessed as non life-threatening. They have subsequently been arrested on suspicion of affray and taken into custody

“An urgent investigation is under way and a crime scene is in place.”

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation.
