Horizon Organic Dairy has recalled 53,760 cases of its shelf-stable 1% chocolate milk boxes, and the detail parents need most is the expiration window. The recalled cartons carry best by dates running from late January into early February 2027, which means they are nowhere near expiring and are very likely sitting in pantries, lunchboxes and classroom snack bins right now.
That is what separates this recall from a produce or deli recall. Shelf-stable milk boxes are bought in bulk, stored for months, and grabbed on the way out the door. A recall notice that reaches a household in September applies to product with roughly five months of shelf life still printed on the carton.
