'Hooky' and MC Tunes to star in Salford mayor's charity DJ event

Legendary bass guitarist Peter Hook is to take to the turntables alongside rapper MC Tunes in a gig in aid of the Salford ceremonial mayor’s charities on Friday (February 17). They will take to the stage at Seven Bro7hers Beerhouse at Middlewood Locks from 7pm to midnight in a DJ event.

The pair, who have worked together on Hacienda Classical for many years, will ‘bring their decades of experience to the event’, says the mayor Coun Ann-Marie Humphreys’ office. Her charities are Animals in Distress, Salford Loaves and Fishes, which works with the homeless, vulnerable and isolated people in the city, and Salford Children’s Holiday Camp.

Hook, also known as ‘Hooky’, rose to fame as the bass player in Joy Division before the band morphed into New Order following the passing of frontman Ian Curtis in 1980. He will play a set leaning towards remixes and great club records while Tunes - from the Moss Side area of Manchester - will dip into more funk, soul and house tracks from across the spectrum.
