Honda has announced a recall of nearly 206,000 SUVs in the United States due to a potential safety concern related to the fuel filler neck. The recall affects specific models, including certain 2023 and 2024 Passports, as well as some 2023 through 2025 Pilots.
The issue identified by Honda involves the fuel filler neck potentially separating from the filler pipe in the event of a crash. This separation could lead to gasoline leakage, increasing the risk of a fire hazard. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a manufacturing glitch during the installation process may have prevented a complete connection between the neck and the pipe.
Despite the recall, Honda has reported only one warranty claim related to this issue and no instances of injuries from December 2018 through November 2020. There have been no reports of fires associated with this problem.
As part of the recall process, Honda dealers will inspect the affected SUVs and ensure that the fuel filler neck is properly connected to the filler pipe. Owners of the impacted vehicles will receive notification letters starting on January 6 to inform them about the necessary steps to address this issue.
It is crucial for owners of the affected Honda SUV models to respond promptly to the recall notice and have their vehicles inspected by authorized dealers. By addressing this issue proactively, owners can help ensure the safety and integrity of their vehicles on the road.
