Honda Civic IX On the Secondary Market – Why Pricey?

It's not a big secret that, in terms of liquidity, Japanese cars are way ahead of many European or Korean models. The prices for cars from the Land of the Rising Sun have never been low on the secondary market.

An obvious example of this is the ninth generation of the Honda Civic. This compact car in used condition comes with a $7,000 price tag on average. You might be curious why the price is so high and why even a crashed honda civic attracts lots of buyers. Clearly, there are reasons behind this appeal that need explaining.

A Brief Review of the Model

The Honda Civic IX was first introduced in 2011 and became the successor to the very popular eighth generation. The manufacturer has done serious homework on the equipment of the IX model. For example, customers could enjoy the following new features and accessories:

  • start & stop system;
  • the lumbar support of the driver's seat;
  • multimedia with a rearview camera;
  • eco-mode;
  • xenon lights;
  • cornering light function.

As for the engine, Honda left the same 1.8-liter engine that was available for the eighth generation. However, this time, Japanese motorists tried to make it a little more economical and environmentally friendly. The dynamics, meanwhile, have not changed because they have added only 2 “horses” of power, totaling 142 “horses” under the hood.

The Reasons for the High Price

Now, let's address the main question – why is it so expensive? We'll attempt to answer most clearly and concisely.

The ninth-generation Honda Civic stands out for its reliable technology. This is its main advantage and the first reason on our list. Its 1.8-liter engine can hit 500,000 miles without major issues, provided one uses good fuel, oil, and other consumables. The piston engine turned out to be resistant to wear, so increased oil consumption occurs rarely.

However, there were disadvantages as well – insufficient tightness of the rubber seals and the air conditioning compressor clutch.

The second reason for the relatively high prices is that customers of the Civic IX model rarely experience any issues with the gearboxes. Both mechanical and automatic transmissions are extremely strong and forgive the driver a lot. The suspension deserves separate praise, too. It lasts for a very, very long time – 130-150 thousand miles, and even longer.

The third advantage is high anti-corrosion resistance. Finding noticeable rust is difficult if the car has not been in a crash.

The fourth and final advantage is the spacious and versatile interior, which is particularly notable in the five-door hatchback. Customers of the Civic IX generation can raise the cushions of the back sofa or fold its backrests, forming a completely flat floor, which is good for transporting large luggage.

The Bottom Line

In general, the ninth-generation Honda Civic turned out to be a very high-quality and solid car. Therefore, buying one in good condition means comfortable and economical driving for a long time without any serious problems.

Even a salvaged or wrecked Civic represents a worthy buy, provided that you know how to repair it or have someone who can do it for you at a reasonable price.
