Homicide Squad detectives investigating the murder of Jake Roarty at Argenton have made a breakthrough, arresting a man at Birmingham Gardens on Wednesday.
Roarty, 38, died in the early hours of April 19 this year after he was allegedly savagely bashed and stabbed by a group of men who kicked down the door to a townhouse in Montgomery Street.
The group of attackers was believed to have arrived in a vehicle outside the house about 4am before forcing their way inside.
They were wearing dark clothing and face coverings and at least one was armed with a knife.
Roarty was stabbed multiple times and left for dead while the group fled.
Emergency services were called and paramedics were treating Roarty and attempting to transport him to an ambulance on a stretcher when he died on the footpath outside his home.
Detectives launched an investigation into the alleged murder and focused on why Roarty became the target of a brutal home invasion.
Following further extensive inquiries, police raided homes at Birmingham Gardens, Waratah and Windale about 6am on Wednesday.
A man, 22, was arrested at the home at Birmingham Gardens and taken to Waratah police station.
He was later charged with murder and will appear in court on Thursday.
Investigations are ongoing and police are working to identify other members of the group.
