Last weekend, a tragic incident occurred near Big Sky, Montana, where a man was found dead while camping. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Dustin Mitchell Kjersem from Belgrade, Montana. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office described the incident as a vicious attack and stated that detectives are actively pursuing leads to solve the case. The discovery was made when a caller reported finding a deceased man in a tent along Moose Creek Road, north of Big Sky, on Saturday morning.
Initially, there were concerns that the death might have been caused by a bear attack. However, a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks agent specializing in bear attacks found no evidence of bear involvement, leading investigators to suspect foul play.
An autopsy confirmed that the man's death was indeed a homicide. Despite ongoing efforts to track down leads, no suspects have been arrested at this time.
The Sheriff's Office is urging anyone who was in the area in the past week and may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward with information. They are also requesting individuals with game or trail cameras in the vicinity to contact the GCSO Detectives Division at 406-582-2121 or via email at [email protected].
