BBC Homes Under The Hammer star Martin Roberts fights back tears in career announcement

After a major health issue that saw presenter of BBC's Homes Under The Hammer rushed to hospital, the popular property expert has posted a video on Instagram full of joy to be back filming the show in the south Wales valleys.

On April 21, 2022 Martin shared with fans via his social media accounts that he had been rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath with chest pains due to a unknown heart issue that had left him with just 'hours to live'.

He told Rochelle Humes and Phillip Schofield on ITV's This Morning on May 11, after being released from hospital: "Basically, a sack around my heart was filling with fluid and it was squeezing the heart is sits around. It means my heart wasn't able to expand, and then it wasn't able to pump.

"At any point I could have had a heart attack. You think it's a breathing problem. It's not. That was just a symptom of the heart not working. All my other organs started failing."

Martin also appeared from his hospital bed on Good Morning Britain, telling presenters Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid that the hospital staff 'literally saved his life'. Find out more about that here.

Since then Martin has posted two update videos regarding his health situation, one on April 28 when he was discharged from hospital thanking the NHS for his treatment and all of his fans for their messages of support.

On May 9, Martin, who owns property in Rhondda, released a reflective video, saying how thankful he was to be able still be here, and also how he is now not going to 'sweat the small stuff' and recommending people with similar symptoms to him to get to A&E fast. He wanted to say to his fans to try and live every day to the fullest, 'because you never know what's round the next corner'.

But the video shared on Instagram with his 20.7 followers on May 24 is going to fill all fans with joy, because Martin is back - and he's so happy he's kissing houses.

With the message 'It's a VERY special day... so I decided I should wear a VERY bright shirt to celebrate' the video includes an update on his health and the very touching reason he is wearing the vibrant shirt.

Beaming from ear to ear Martin says: "So I've got some news, and it's actually pretty amazing news. Today is a very special day and it's quite an emotional day to be honest, because I've spoken to the doctors and they've said as long as I take it easy, which isn't necessarily that easy for me, but I've got to, as long as I take it easy I'm ok to start work.

"So, I am back today filming Homes Under The Hammer. I'm in the valleys of Wales and I never thought that I would be so happy to see a two up two down terrace!"

Martin proceeds to kiss the terrace house next to him and fights back tears in a show of overwhelming happiness and gratitude to be back filming the popular daytime property show.

He continues: "I have missed this so much, it's amazing to be back. so you ,might notice the shirt, it's a little bit OTT but I need to celebrate, it's a bit of a sartorial celebration, so the nearest thing I've got to a bunch of flowers which I'm going to dedicate to you.

"If you just sent messages of support and all your good wishes this shirt is for you, and so at some point in the future you will see this on Homes Under The Hammer and people might make comments about me making ridiculously OTT shirt, but you'll know it's because it was a little nod to all the kindness I've received over the last few weeks. So thank you, again and here I am, I'M BACK! And it feels great."

And his fans and colleagues couldn't be happier to see him back in front of the camera too, with former Homes Under The Hammer who worked alongside Martin for years, Lucy Alexander, posting: 'Lol. I NEVER thought you'd be so happy kissing bricks. Oh how we luv a two up two down in Wales'.
