Homes for sale in Ancoats as it is named one of the best places to live in UK

Three areas of Greater Manchester have been featured in The Sunday Times' Best Places to Live - with one being the trendy Ancoats neighbourhood. The annual guide looks at all areas across the UK, with the judges visiting each place to assess factors from schools and transport to culture, green spaces and the health of the high street.

Having been transformed in recent years from a textile district, Ancoats was chosen by The Sunday Times' expert panel for the first time as an alternative to Altrincham, which has been named on the list for the last six years but missed its soot this year.

Thanks to its eclectic food and drink scene and variety of new build homes, converted mill apartments and its Instagram famous Anita Street, The Times says that the Manchester suburb 'sets the benchmark for hip urban living'.

Located just east of the popular Northern Quarter, Ancoats is set in a prime location near to all the city centre amentities, whilst offering its own character with its former factories, mills and Grade II listed buildings that have since been converted into homes.

In its extensive guide, the Times said: "Much has already been written about Ancoats, but its historic mills, warehouses and new-build blocks set the benchmark for hip urban living.

"There’s talk of at least 1,500 more homes, a £32.7 million Ancoats “mobility hub” is on its way, with carparking, electric vehicle charging points, car and bicycle sharing clubs, and a café.

"Such confidence and connectivity has had a knock-on effect, spurring on other parts of the city, such a Deansgate, where there are plans to turn the grade II listed Great Northern Warehouse into offices and new homes."

Over the last year properties in Ancoats had an overall average house price of £266,982, with the majority of sales being flats.

Terraced properties sold for an average of £388,000, whilst semi-detached properties were selling for around £296,000.

With Ancoats now set to become even more sought-after, we have looked at some homes that are on the market there at the moment, which range from one-bed apartments to three-bed townhouses.
